excellence

For the promise of potential. For communities that flourish. For good.

As we prepare the next generation of leaders, we teach them to consider how their contributions can have the greatest impact on a profoundly complex world. That's why we focus on developing the whole student, so that they can discover their own passions and purpose, and hone their God-given talents. We encourage students and faculty to explore the totality of their experience through the lens of the Catholic intellectual tradition, seeking justice and truth in both new and timeless questions.

You can foster this growth by helping us expand our educational offerings and advance knowledge.

Endowed positions

By creating endowed chairs, professorships and directorships, you help attract, recognize and reward the leading educators and researchers who will shape the next generation of Seton Hall leaders. Their mentorship is a beacon for students who want to become the person God created them to be — and for junior faculty who want to learn from and collaborate with scholars of the highest caliber.

Advancing Women in STEM

As a computer science major in Seton Hall’s College of Arts and Sciences, Ashley Mathew ’25/M.S. ’26 knew she wanted to pursue graduate study, though she wasn’t yet sure which field to choose. Thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation’s Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship for Women in STEM and its strong emphasis on research, she was able to deepen her interest in data science and conduct meaningful research on cyberbullying.

Where Faith and Academia Meet

The Monsignor Edward Ciuba Fellowship, offered by Seton Hall's Center for Catholic Studies, fosters connections between academia and faith communities by enabling scholars to use their expertise to meet the Church’s needs, ensuring a dynamic exchange of knowledge, spiritual growth, and pastoral outreach. The inaugural recipient, Professor Mary Landriau, is using the yearlong fellowship to lead an initiative to reestablish a women’s group ministry at her diverse hometown parish in Plainfield, New Jersey.

An Award-Winning Scientific Discovery

Chemistry funding from donors like Thomas and Sylvia Tencza is enabling breakthroughs in Seton Hall’s research labs. Sanskruti Brahmbhatt ’25, a biology major, was immersed in her undergraduate research on phthalocyanines when a lightbulb moment occurred and she discovered an isomer that may be valuable in cancer treatment research.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Priests

Support from the Lilly Endowment is helping cultivate leaders like Father Joe, who answered the call to be a representative of the Church. After excelling at Seton Hall's Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology and finishing his training at Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Father Joe found a home at St. Paul the Apostle in Jersey City. Since 2019, he has been promoted from parochial vicar to pastor, breathing new life into his congregation and rescuing a Catholic school along the way.
