Stories of excellence, innovation and enrichment

Genesis Batista in the Valente Italian Library at Seton Hall

"I experienced that personal growth, that feeling that there are new things I can do, that there’s a new way of looking at the world."

Genesis Batista, Class of 2027

Life-Changing Lessons in the Eternal City

Before coming to Seton Hall University, Genesis Batista had never traveled far from her home in Newark. However, when she learned about the Rome Connection program during freshman orientation, something clicked. Thanks to donor-funded support, Genesis was able to experience new cultures and perspectives during a two-and-a-half-week trip to the Eternal City. Designed to enrich the academic curriculum and broaden students’ perspectives, the program immerses students in a foreign culture steeped in history and spirituality.

Sid Kapoor at the Stillman School of Business

"We've got so many mentors rooting for us and investing in us."

Sid Kapoor '26, CEO, Anvillent

Bringing Ideas to Life

In 2023, Sid Kapoor ’26 and his business partners came up with an idea for a business: What if they created a service to help aspiring developers bring their software to market? That idea became Anvillent, a startup with a mission to turn entrepreneurs’ ideas into reality.

Anvillent would not have been possible without support from Seton Hall University’s Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), which fosters collaboration among faculty, students, alumni and entrepreneurs through programs that advance entrepreneurial learning across the University. Thanks to the generosity of Bryan Jakovcic ’09, the Entrepreneurial Studies Endowed Fund provides CIE students with seed grants for startups and supports programming that encourages innovation and creativity.

"It’s crucial for students in this field to get hands-on experience."

Christine Franco, Class of 2028

Making News

Since her senior year of high school, Christine Franco knew she wanted to work in television production. Now at Seton Hall, she is gaining hands-on experience as a student in the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, concentrating in television production. When she’s not in class, Christine can often be found in the John P. and Glynda Gallagher Studio and Control Room, working on the University’s broadcast network, SHU TV.

The studio and control room were made possible through a gift from alumnus John P. Gallagher ’66, who built a successful career in broadcast journalism. Thanks to the generosity of the Gallagher family, aspiring broadcasters like Christine are able to hone their skills in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest technology.

Angela Alvarez in front of Seton Hall's Chapel of the Immaculate Conception

"These opportunities have made me feel like I'm a part of something much bigger than myself."

Angela Alvarez '25

Like a Dove Ascending

Angela Alvarez describes the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE) at Seton Hall as a second home. Some of her most transformative volunteer experiences were made possible through the generosity of donors who support DOVE’s mission of service. Their support helps fund trips to underserved communities around the world.

Angela’s most recent trip took her to El Mozote, El Salvador, where she distributed food and other essential supplies to residents of the remote, once war-torn village. The experience strengthened her relationship with God and deepened her commitment to pursuing a career rooted in social justice.
