Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship

The Seton Hall Law Alumni Council, which represents varying class years, geographic locations, and career paths, partners with the Law School to foster alumni engagement, support current students, and recruit prospective students. Council members are engaged and dedicated to supporting the Law School's mission and goals by staying informed, involved, and invested.

Immediate Past President of the Alumni Council, Daniel Levy '04 recently attended a Board of Visitors meeting. It was there that he learned the outsized impact on the Law School of increasing its endowment. Dan was particularly engaged by the idea that endowed scholarship funds could boost the Law School's rankings and by helping to recruit and retain amazing students. He immediately turned to fellow Alumni Council members Marc A. Calello '89, Julian Leone '04, and John Chiaia '93 and the Chiaia Family who are proud to announce the establishment of the Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship fund.

"I believe we at some point recognize how grateful we are to be blessed with what we have earned as lawyers and alumni," says Marc. "When it was mentioned at a meeting how scholarships, in particular, endowed scholarships, develop into increased and rightful recognition of our Law School, the thought quickly developed into a goal upon which many of us believed it was time to act. We know how exceptional Seton Hall Law is, having it recognized by talented student applicants and our nation of law schools, inspires us further."

The Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship fund will provide financial assistance to students with financial need and in good academic standing. "The Council looks for alumni members who are committed to engagement and leadership with respect to our alma mater. The scholarship criteria draw upon those same qualities seeking a student recipient who possesses leadership experience in their current roles and a passion for engagement within their own community," shares Dan.

Alumni Council members make Seton Hall Law an even greater place to study, gain professional skills and develop a lifelong network of friends and colleagues. John so eloquently stated, "I credit all of the Law School professors and leaders that have created and continued the unique 'Seton Hall' family-like atmosphere of learning, career development, and on-campus life. I am proud and confident in establishing this endowed scholarship with the Seton Hall Law of today, which has carried forward the same principles and ethos which I knew from my 1L year in 1990."

Julian adds, "Our hope is that receiving this award might inspire the recipients to one day pay it forward and to also remain engaged with the Law School well beyond their time as students."

More About the Alumni Council

The Alumni Council continues to expand its reach, volunteering to mentor students, participate in mock interviews, increase alumni visibility with students for networking, and share their Seton Hall Law stories with prospective and admitted students. The Council remains informed about the Law School and promotes alumni philanthropy and participation in alumni events throughout the year including the Fun Run, Trivia Night, Red Mass, Gala, Golf Outing, and Seton Hall Giving Day. Most recently, the Alumni Council has increased its engagement with Graduate of the Last Decade by creating a GOLD Committee of which two Council members chair.

As New Jersey's only Catholic law school, Seton Hall Law must work to continue to ensure that it offers an extraordinary educational value for students, especially those whose personal and professional prospects can be transformed by a legal education. Working together, Seton Hall Law and our committed alumni, can help to ensure that the education we provide will be accessible to promising students regardless of their economic background.
