Priority Areas of Support

Scholarships

Scholarship support helps Seton Hall remain competitive while ensuring access to education for talented students from all backgrounds. At the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, expanding scholarship support will strengthen accessibility and broaden the range of perspectives represented in the classroom. 

International challenges are shaped by people with diverse experiences and viewpoints. By investing in student scholarships, donors help ensure that students can pursue a Diplomacy education regardless of financial circumstance, enriching classroom dialogue and preparing graduates to address complex global issues. 

Our areas of greatest need include:

First-generation and low-income student scholarships, which would have the greatest impact and help welcome students whose voices have historically been underrepresented in international affairs.

Graduate student scholarships, which will help Seton Hall remain competitive with well-known universities in the U.S. and abroad, that often offer larger financial aid packages.

Scholarship support eases financial pressure on students and families, allowing students to more fully engage in the academic, professional and experiential opportunities offered by the School while preparing them for leadership in a rapidly changing global landscape.

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is woven into the fabric of the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. Through the campaign, the School seeks to expand its offerings and ensure that every student participates in at least one funded experiential learning opportunity while enrolled. These hands-on experiences transform students’ education and give them a distinct advantage in the job market. 

We seek to strengthen and expand the following programs:

National Security Fellowship

National Security Fellowship

A select group of graduate students conducts high-level research and develops policy recommendations for agencies such as the Department of State, Department of Defense and the White House. Students present their findings directly to these partners in Washington, D.C., and abroad. Additional funding would expand access by supporting student travel and increasing participation in this experiential learning opportunity.

DiploLab

DiploLab

Undergraduate diplomacy students  explore their interests in international relations, engage closely with faculty and apply classroom learning to real-world challenges. Donor support for scholarships or stipends would enable more students to participate, ensuring they do not have to forgo this experience due to financial constraints.

Internships

Internships

All students in the School complete internships, but only about 30% are paid. Too often, students choose paid opportunities over those most closely aligned with their career goals. Campaign support would allow students to pursue the best opportunities, not simply the most affordable ones.

Study Abroad

Study Abroad

Students are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs that provide invaluable opportunities to experience other cultures, improve foreign language skills and practice diplomacy firsthand. However, without financial support, some students choose destinations based on cost rather than language immersion or regional expertise, while others forgo studying abroad entirely.
