An Increased Desire to Give Back
As Steve Marcopoto approached the close of his corporate life and reflected on the key elements that enabled him to experience an intellectually rewarding, experientially full and successful career, Seton Hall was among those he could count on one hand.
At that time, said Steve, "I had been giving for several years, but felt an increased desire to give back and broaden my level of commitment now that I could."
That desire led Steve to establish the Anthony A. Marcopoto Endowed Scholarship Fund for the College of Communication and the Arts through a bequest in his will. The named scholarship fund would not only memorialize the life of his father, Anthony, an active musician and beloved music educator, but would also provide financial aid for students in CommArts.
"This gift will provide the opportunity in the years to come for motivated students to experience and benefit from the educational and career-related opportunities I had at Seton Hall, which really made all the difference in my life," emphasized Steve. "I couldn't think of a better motto in life than Hazard Zet Forward, and it was very much in alignment with my father's personal motto of Sempre Avanti."
Although Steve had a long career in the corporate world and more than three decades of success in international media — including the broadcast, digital and publishing businesses, on behalf of global brands from CNN to TIME — his career actually began right here at Seton Hall. It was at the University's newspaper, The Setonian, where he was given his start. Steve went on to become Assistant Sports Information Director in the University's Public Relations Office and Editor-in-Chief at The Setonian. In fact, he spent so much time in these activities, he is indebted to his academic advisor and beacon, Dr. Peter Ahr, without whom he says he wouldn't have graduated.
Today Steve is independently involved in various ventures and enterprises in media, sports and entertainment. He resides in Hong Kong with his wife, Amelia, and enjoys golf, pursuing his passion for music, spending time with his children and visiting the Seton Hall campus at least once a year.
